Make up

When I apply my lipstick, it 'feathers' into my lip line. How can I make my lipstick stay put?

Feather proof your lips with a waxy liner applied outside the lip line. Apply a lip primer before lipstick. Try The Body Shop Lip Line Fixer and The Body Shop Matt It skin and lip primer. To emphasise fullness, define the of the cupid's bow and just under the middle of the lower lip, rather than outlining the whole lip. Use a neutral liner such as Mac Spice lip pencil. Add a touch of highlighter to the centre of the lower lip and just above the cupid's bow.

How do I use a shimmer highlighter? I would like to add a glow to my skin.

Shimmers can be really pretty when used effectively and give a beautiful glow to the skin. A shimmer effect is also very handy to disguise fine lines. Try using your shimmery highlighters as a last touch - add a strip down the centre of the face, on the of cheekbones and just above and below the outer brow.

Can you disguise a double chin with make-up?

Yes. Use a dot of deeper foundation under the chin. A lot of people don't have a defined jaw line and this area never sees the sun, so it's really pale, which just highlights the area. Blending a small amount of darker foundation or powder will create shadow and slim the face.

What is the best way to use a concealer on my skin?

Choose a concealer that is lighter than your own skin tone and which has a brush, such as The Body Shop Lightening Touch. Apply to the inner corners of the eyes, the sides of the nose and in the centre of the face. You can use this every day to brighten the skin and level your skin tone.

I'm in my 50s. What would you recommend for my make-up routine?

Skin changes with the menopause so you may need to tweak your skin care regime. If you find it drier, use a facial oil. Treat any oiliness or the occasional blemish gently, avoiding harsh cleansers. Victoria can advise on a skin care regime for your specific needs.

Use a tinted moisturiser or a sheer compact foundation as heavier bases just sit in lines. Using an illuminating lotion with your foundation can really help too.

Choose soft colours like taupe or beige with golden undertones on the eyes. Avoid anything with pink as this will redden the lids. Be sure to define both lashes and brows as these give shape and definition to the face. Apply blusher in a warm peach or apricot high up on the cheek bone to lift and brighten.

Skin Care

I've got a special occasion coming up and a huge spot has just appeared on my face! What can I do?

Don't touch the spot with your fingers! Use a specialised product to dry it out and cover with a concealer. Use a brush to paint on either a stick foundation or a more dense, long lasting concealer, in a shade that exactly matches your skin. Seal with a powder in a shade that matches your skin.

How can I disguise redness in my skin?

Use a clean make-up sponge or brush to apply a yellow toned tinted moisturiser or foundation. (Don't bother with green or purple corrector powders, they don't really help). Next, cover any red areas with a touch up brush and stick foundation. If there's still any red left in your cheeks, skip blusher and finish with a dusting of bronzing powder (the brown tones help counteract the red).

How do I choose the skin care that's right for me?

Book a consultation with Victoria. Very often, our skin is a combination of varied conditions which require targeted treatment. For example, you may have an oily skin but with dry patches. Victoria can tailor a skin care regime to suit your needs and encourage your skin to be it's very glowing best.
